The power of women in entertainment, music, and sports was celebrated in all its glory at the Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year Awards. This annual event, held at London's prestigious Claridge's Hotel, brought together some of the most influential and inspiring figures in their respective fields.
But here's where it gets controversial... or at least, a little unexpected. Among the winners was singer Jade, formerly of Little Mix, who took home the Musician of the Year award. Presented by the iconic Cheryl, Jade's acceptance speech highlighted the impact Cheryl had on her journey, especially as a fellow North Easterner.
"Cheryl was my inspiration, my role model," Jade shared. "I'd bring her pictures to the salon, dreaming of emulating her style. She showed me that success was possible, and I'm forever grateful for that."
The evening also recognized achievements in television, with Erin Doherty winning the Performance of the Year award for her role in the Netflix sensation, Adolescence. Owen Cooper, the show's lead, presented the award, praising Doherty's "power and authenticity."
And this is the part most people miss... or at least, don't expect. Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa presented the award for The White Lotus to Aimee Lou Wood, but not before reading her entire birth chart to the audience, humorously suggesting her brilliance was destined.
Reese Witherspoon, honored as a cultural icon, received her award from Barbie's America Ferrera. In her speech, Witherspoon revealed the motivation behind her production company, Hello Sunshine, stating, "Hollywood wasn't telling the stories I wanted to hear, so I decided to tell them myself."
Finally, theatre veteran Celia Imrie presented the Theatre Award to Rosamund Pike for her acclaimed performance in Inter Alia at the National Theatre. Imrie's speech was a highlight, leaving guests in stitches as she joked about revealing the winner of Celebrity Traitors.
